Frequently asked questions about Phonak hearing aids

Yes, many Phonak hearing aid models come with Bluetooth connectivity. Phonak was a pioneer in introducing universal Bluetooth connectivity, enabling both iOS and Android users to enjoy direct stereo streaming without the need for intermediary accessories.

For battery-powered models: open and close the battery door, you will then have 3 minutes to complete the pairing. For rechargeable models: place them in the charger and then remove them. This action puts the hearing aids into pairing mode. On your device, ensure Bluetooth is enabled and search for Bluetooth-enabled devices. Your device will show a list of Bluetooth-enabled devices. Select your hearing aids from the list. A beep will confirm that the pairing was successful.

Once paired, your hearing aids will automatically reconnect to your device when turned on. If you encounter any issues or switch to a new device, you may need to repeat the pairing process.

Most Phonak hearing aids are water-resistant, designed to handle daily exposure to moisture like sweat or light rain. However, they are not fully waterproof, except for certain models like the Lumity Life range, which are waterproof and can be submerged up to a specified depth.

It’s important to check the specific model’s IP rating to understand its water resistance level, and follow care instructions to maintain their performance.

Yes, Phonak hearing aids can be repaired for hearing aids that are in warranty. Routine maintenance or minor repairs are often handled by a hearing care professional. For more serious issues, Phonak provides repair services, which can be arranged by contacting their customer service.  If your hearing aids are out of warranty, there will be an applicable charge depending on the type of repair required.

It’s crucial to avoid attempting repairs at home, as Phonak hearing aids are delicate devices that can be easily damaged by tools like screwdrivers or substances like oil. Always seek professional assistance to avoid causing irreparable damage.

Always handle your hearing aids over a soft surface to prevent damage if dropped. To clean your Phonak hearing aids:

  • Gently wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth daily.
  • Use the provided cleaning tools to remove earwax or debris from the sound outlet and microphone openings. For custom models, clean the vent with the provided cleaning wire.
  • Replace wax filters and domes every month.

Avoid using water or cleaning solutions unless recommended by Phonak for your model. For optimal performance, clean your hearing aids daily and consult your audiologist for professional cleaning every few months.
