In a world where your mobile phone, laptop and camera are all shrinking, it comes as no surprise that hearing aids are downsizing too. These days, a tiny device placed inside your ear can be all you need to regain both your hearing and your confidence. But how exactly do these diminutive devices still manage to pack a punch?

Hide and seek

The hearing aid world was thrown a curveball in 1993 when the first Completely in the Canal (CIC) and Invisible in Canal (ICC) hidden hearing aids hit the market. Pioneers of their time, the custom-made devices were fitted inside ear canals – making them totally invisible on the outside.

They’ve grown in popularity since then, with people enjoying the subtlety that these in the ear hearing aids offer, as well as their custom fit and improved sound reception.

Good things come in small packages

Barely the size of a fingernail, these devices can differentiate between sounds and environments to give you the optimum listening experience. They know when they’re listening to a conversation, helping you pick out voices over background noise. They can also be easily removed – they’re custom moulded to your ear canal, so they’ll be snug and comfortable, while many brands offer a choice of colour to suit every skin tone.
