What is a hearing aid review?

A hearing aid review is a follow-up appointment that helps ensure your hearing aids continue functioning effectively and support your day-to-day hearing needs. These appointments are designed to feel relaxed and collaborative, giving you time to talk openly about your experience and ask questions.

Why is hearing aid aftercare important?

For many people, ongoing hearing support is not just about hearing better. It is about feeling more involved, independent and confident in daily life.

Hearing can change gradually over time, which means your hearing aids may occasionally need adjusting to continue performing at their best. Everyday factors can also affect hearing aid performance, including lifestyle changes, listening environments and ear wax build-up.

Routine aftercare appointments help ensure your devices are functioning properly while giving you the chance to discuss any concerns or hearing changes you may have noticed. Ongoing support may help you:

Hear the television more comfortably

Improve listening in restaurants or group environments

Maintain comfort throughout the day

Stay connected to important everyday moments

Enjoy clearer conversations

Feel more confident in social settings

Signs you may benefit from a hearing aid review

After your initial fitting, we usually recommend a follow-up appointment within the first 2 months to ensure you are settling in comfortably. Ongoing hearing aid reviews are then typically recommended every 6 to 12 months.

However, if something no longer feels quite right, it is important to book an appointment sooner. You may benefit from a hearing aid review if:

  • Sounds seem less clear than usual
  • Volume levels feel inconsistent
  • Your hearing aids whistle or produce feedback
  • Hearing in noisy places becomes more difficult
  • Your devices feel uncomfortable
  • Batteries drain more quickly than expected
  • You find yourself avoiding conversations again
  • Your hearing aids no longer feel as effective

If you are unsure whether something is normal, our team is always happy to help. You do not need to wait for your next scheduled review to contact us.

What happens during a hearing aid review appointment?

Your hearing aid review appointment is tailored around your individual experience and listening needs. During the appointment, your audiologist may ask or provide some of the following:

  • How have you been getting on?
We’ll take time to talk through your experience since your last appointment, including any listening situations you have found easier or more challenging. This helps us better understand how your hearing aids are supporting your day-to-day life.
  • Ear health check
Your audiologist will check the health of your ears and look for signs of ear wax build-up, irritation or anything that may be affecting your hearing aid performance or comfort.
  • Hearing aid adjustments
Small adjustments to your hearing aids can often make a noticeable difference. We may fine-tune your settings to help improve sound clarity, comfort and listening in different environments.
  • Advice and ongoing support
We are here to answer any questions you may have about your hearing aids, daily care, cleaning, charging, apps or getting the best from your devices at home and socially.

These appointments are designed to help you continue feeling comfortable, supported and confident with your hearing aids.

Purchased your hearing aids elsewhere?

If your hearing aids were purchased elsewhere, we may still be able to support you through a bespoke aftercare package tailored to your needs. This includes ongoing reviews, servicing, adjustments and professional support over a 3-year period.

If your hearing aids were fitted by another provider, please contact our support team to confirm whether we can support your specific device.

Our hearing aid aftercare reviews

Experts suggest that aftercare is probably more important than product selection. With this in mind, I had hearing assessments with a couple of audiologists; one with a major high street brand and one with The Hearing Care Partnership (THCP). After meeting with THCP, there was a clear and obvious winner. Faisal (Mohammed) is a great representative of the company. He's professional and knowledgeable yet approachable and friendly. I am very pleased with the product he recommended and the service I have received since our first meeting a couple of months ago. I can highly recommend TCHP and Faisal in particular.

I went for a six-monthly hearing review with Marie Renton in Totnes, following previous appointments at a different branch. Marie was articulate, knowledgeable, and so easy to get along with. I'll definitely be going to her in future. She gave me a lot of information about my hearing that I'd not been told before, and even showed me the correct way to put my glasses on without disturbing my hearing aids. Simple things but so important. Thank you, Marie!

Shivali Chavda, the audiologist who saw me, could not have been better. She thoroughly explained all aspects of the hearing test and the options available to me. The care and aftercare have been first class. I had previously tried NHS hearing aids but did not get on well with them. I was nervous about spending a lot of money going privately but it has proved to be worth every penny. It is extremely reassuring to know that help is available whenever required and that I will be checked regularly. Highly recommend.

My hearing aid service and hearing review with Qais Khalik in Sheffield last week was really excellent. He was very patient and thorough. He gave me the full information about the procedures in advance, and also advised on how to get the best from my aids.
